Today marks the first year since this site was made public December 23, 2022. Only two days before Christmas. What a gift it was to have my most complex UI project of my life up before the end of the year. The six months fine-tuning it and the number of glitches I had to deal with were very much under control. My discovery of putting up such a mature site early on was that the following year of work allowed me to shift my energy into starting what would become another complex site. It took so much time for me to see the second half of this work (which starts with the August article) is very much a different. The first half is long groupings of chapter like text. My major intention for this to turn into an on-line book caused me to focus on crafting the second half into fairly long chapter sized volumes too.

After nearly two years of composing these ideas I came to realize the second half is more short articles and poems and less traditional style chapters. This style of writing really does not require the context of the other articles around it to comprehend the discussion. They stand on their own. This would allow for the work to befit an audience that has less interest in long philosophical musings yet would be okay with it in smaller doses.

A shift to a new writing style requires a reconsideration on how to advance through the pages. I don’t need to overhaul the navigation like when I started the site. Still some thought is still called for. Given that these pages have to do with school nearly all the pages just flow together. I don’t need to divide middle school apart from high school and college. These different institutions are ultimately about finding my purpose and less about the building I was located in while on my quest.

Also there is something about switching it up to poetry that got me thinking this way too. I remember the poetry books I’ve read to have no sections in them. It was just pages of poems until you got to the end. There wasn’t a chapter explaining what you were about to read; the title on the cover tied all these pieces together. Another byproduct of expanding to five websites in total is that it now makes more sense to have a portfolio promoting my web design work. This is exactly what I started on this week. Finally able to assemble a collection which shows the fullness of what I have been striving for these last several years! It was hard to showcase my new skills when I only had two sites.
